Mae Design Studio, an interior design practice based in Hong Kong, engaged us to reimagine its digital presence in line with the studio’s aesthetic values and minimalist philosophy. Known for curating homes that reflect the individual narratives of their clients, Mae Design Studio embraces a refined, pared-back approach that brings together monochromatic palettes, earthy tones, soft contours, and clean lines.

Our collaboration centred on a complete overhaul of the website, with a strong focus on clarity, structure, and an intuitive user experience. The interface was designed to allow visitors to seamlessly navigate the studio’s portfolio—projects are organised by type and spatial dimensions, making it easy to locate works of similar scale or context. Each project is presented through a split-screen layout: the left panel offers key project information such as size, location, and a brief narrative, while the right panel displays a scrollable gallery of imagery. This structure ensures the content remains accessible while encouraging focused engagement with the work.

A bespoke wordmark was also developed, reflecting the essence of the studio through a subtle interplay of form and meaning. The identity is rooted in the acronym “mae,” where the descending leg of the “m” signifies the foundational quality of a home, and the flowing connection between the “a” and “e” speaks to the harmony found in their interiors. The typographic treatment favours restraint, featuring delicate lines and considered curves to mirror the calm, elegant atmosphere the studio brings to each project.

Significant attention was paid to negative space throughout the site, reinforcing a sense of calm and allowing the content to breathe. In parallel with the digital work, we also collaborated on a video that offers a look into the studio’s new office—capturing not only the physical space but also their process, team culture, and overall sensibility.
